Smokums Gun
Smokums Gunn “Smokum” is a 2022 Quarter Horse Gelding standing 15.2 hands tall. Everything about this horse sets him up for success. From his breeding, to his foundation, and every experience and job he has had along the way. Talk about a versatile horse, Smokum has an impressive resume to go along with his good looks and mind. Smokum was started in a cow horse program, worked in the feedlot, has been exposed to all aspects of ranch work, puts together a beautiful dressage test, and will jump a small course of fences in the ring. Smart, versatile, horses are what we aim for, and Smokum certainly checks that box and then some. Whether you want to excel in the arena, the show ring, or on the ranch, Smokum is ready and prepared for any job.
Under western tack, Smokum has smooth lead departures, circles well, has a great turnaround and a big stop. He rides one handed with a great handle to him. He is ready to succeed in the ranch versatility classes. He has a ton of cow and loves to have a job.
Under English tack, Smokum is soft in the bridle and likes to be round and correct. He is extremely smooth and comfortable with easy transitions and adjustability. He’s the right mix of whoa and go, having the athletic ability there when you need it without being a hot or forward ride. He has been coursing 2’ with scope for more and has been honest and simple over fences. Though he is very sensible and has been amateur friendly in our program, due to his age and buttons his training gives him, we feel Smokum is not for a complete beginner unless they plan to keep him in a program with a trainer to help along the way. If you have any questions or concerns for his suitability for you, give us a call and we are happy to help figure out if he’s the one or if another one of our horses may be better for you.
On the ranch and in the feedlot, Smokum has plenty of miles and experience. He’ll open and close gates all day long, he’s been used for early morning shipping , fun to sort on, and will work as long as you ask him to.
On the trails, Smokum is happy to go out on a loose rein and enjoy the sights. He has seen freight trains, tractor trailers, buggy’s, and everything in between. He’ll cross bridges, loves the water, and will ride through town right down Main Street.
In the barn, Smokum is like a puppy dog. He loves people and attention and is a good boy for all the usual barn tasks. He’s easy to catch in the field, and enjoys living outside. He is an easy keeper that is a useful horse to have around.
Smokum has no quirks or vices and has a clean vet check on file.
